Women and Youth

Women and youth form over half of our community and the NCM works with these groups to ascertain and understand their needs, working with our member Mosques to improve the services offered to these groups.

Many Mosques offer Quran teaching and Islamic studies (Madrassah) including Salah learning. However, there is inadequate provision of recreational and sports facilities with only three in Nottingham having a dedicated Nottingham sports centre. These are Nottingham Islam information point, Bobbersmill Community centre and the Beeston Mosque.

Many member Mosques may lack space or volunteers with experience in running youth/women’s activities. All our Mosques have a responsibility to engage with young people and women, ensuring they feel valued. The NCM supports Mosques to instil confidence within young people and empower them to be proud of their Muslim identity, and be respectable members of our society. We will work with the right organisations to tackle issues of knife crime, drug misuse and the impact of social media.

Women have an important role to play within our communities. Many mosques have some form of classes for women but again there does appear to be a gap in social and sports activities for women which needs addressing to encourage women to fully participate in Mosques.
